Are your products Vegan and Cruelty Free?
Supergoop! is Leaping Bunny-certified cruelty-free, and all of our products are vegan.
What is the shelf life of your products?
Supergoop uses expiration dates to guarantee that our products maintain the highest efficacy and quality. If your product comes in a tube, like our Unseen Sunscreen, the expiration date will be located on the crimped edging. If you have one of our spray bottles or sticks, you can locate the expiration date on the bottom of the bottle.
Chemical v. Mineral – what’s the difference?
Supergoop!’s main goal is to formulate sunscreen products that people want to wear every single day. We know that there is no “one-size-fits-all” formula and we pride ourselves in having a product for everyone – from moms with young kids, to beauty enthusiasts, to athletes. This means we formulate with both chemical and mineral sunscreen actives depending on the usage scenario. For example, mineral based formulas are perfect for kiddos and people with sensitive, acne-prone or reactive skin but are not the best for active people who are looking for a lightweight, high-performing, clear formula to use when swimming or sweating. However, no matter which type of product you choose, you can be assured that every product is thoughtfully formulated to meet the highest quality, efficacy and safety standards, because we’re all about that perfect balance.

Does Supergoop! contain silicones?
Silicones reduce the greasy, sticky, and heavy feeling that most people associate with sunscreens. Silicones also help maximize the efficacy and protection of the sunscreen actives as they allow more and more uniform application of the product, specifically in water and sweat-resistant products.

I have acne-prone skin and I’m afraid wearing sunscreen everyday will make it worse. What should I do?
Regardless of your skin type, you should still be wearing SPF every day. We recommend using our non-comedogenic SPF products, as they are less likely to clog your pores. Also, zinc oxide is an active in our mineral products that soothes irritation and redness! For your specific skin condition, we recommend talking to your doctor.

Does Supergoop! use alcohol in their formulas?
There are a lot of misconceptions about alcohol in skincare, mostly about it being bad for the skin. However, it’s not a black and white issue and there are nuances depending on the type of alcohol, its function and concentration in a formula. Here’s the nitty gritty on alcohol.
Alcohols are classified into three different types: Simple, Fatty and Aromatic/Other.
Simple alcohols get a bad rap for causing dryness and irritation when used alone. However, when used at the right concentration with the right blend of ingredients, these alcohols typically don’t affect the skin negatively and may actually aid in ingredient delivery. Below is a list of products we use these alcohols in and the purpose they serve:
- (Re)setting Refreshing Mist SPF 40: used as a carrier for the sunscreen actives. Evaporates quickly.
- Glow Oil SPF 50: used as the solvent for the sunscreen actives.
- PLAY Antioxidant Body Mist SPF 50 with Vitamin C and PLAY Antioxidant Body Mist SPF 30 with Vitamin C: allows the formula to be applied to wet skin.
Examples of simple alcohols: Denatured Alcohol (Alcohol Denat.), Ethanol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Benzyl Alcohol, and Methanol.
Fatty alcohols act as emollients and help the skin retain moisture. We use them in the following products: City Sunscreen Serum, PLAY Everyday Lotion SPF 50 with Sunflower Extract, PLAY Everyday Lotion SPF 30 with Sunflower Extract , Glow Oil SPF 50, Forever Young Body Butter, Handscreen SPF 40, Shine On Lip Screen, PLAY Body Mousse SPF 50 with Blue Sea Kale, PLAY 100% Mineral Body Mist SPF 30 with Marigold Extract, Healthy Glow Sunless Tan, Sunnyscreen™ 100% Mineral Lotion, PLAY 100% Mineral Lotion, Zincscreen 100% Mineral Lotion and Glow Stick SPF 50.
Examples of fatty alcohols: Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Behenyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, and Lauryl Alcohol
Aromatic/Other alcohols are natural components of some essential oils and natural fragrance blends or antimicrobials. They are used in Superscreen Daily Moisturizer as a preservative.
Examples of aromatic and other alcohols: Benzyl Alcohol and Phenetyl Alcohol.
Can I use your products on my kiddos?
Yes! Our founder, and mom of two Holly, has always strived to make products that our customers would feel comfortable putting on their children – and ones that use the cleanest ingredients possible, without sacrificing efficacy (our product development philosophy). Some of our gentlest, most kid-friendly formulas include our 100% Mineral Sunscreen Stick and our PLAY 100% Mineral Body Mist SPF 30 with Marigold Extract.
For kiddos without particularly sensitive skin, we recommend our PLAY Everyday Lotion SPF 50 with Sunflower Extract, PLAY Everyday Lotion SPF 30 with Sunflower Extract, and our PLAY Body Mousse SPF 50 with Blue Sea Kale. Our Everyday formula was the first one we created back in 2007 that’s still a customer favorite today…it also comes in a family-friendly 18-oz. pump that everyone loves. The mousse is one of our most fun formulas and kids actually have a blast using it.
